Beginnings...
High Temple Workshops are a series of workshops that cover the areas of
design, development and application of high temperature reinforced
polymeric composites. Started in 1982, these workshops have been
held at places located in Dayton, Sacramento, Cocoa Beach and Santa Fe
to name a few.
Purpose...
The primary purpose of High Temple workshops is to
communicate ongoing high temperature polymer composite research among
DoD, NASA, other governmental agencies, Industry and Universities. Over
the years, interdisciplinary teams were formed to further HT polymer
composites into many applications such as advanced engine and
aero-structure components. These teams made and continue to make
significant advances in composite related technologies such as:
fiber-resin interfaces, new chemistries that enhance thermal oxidative
stability, high temperature test methods, design-material databases, and
low-cost and intelligent processing techniques.
Today...
In today’s world of “better, faster, cheaper,” many
long-lasting relationships, which started at High Temple workshops,
generate technical advances and enable the production of light weight,
low cost polymer composite hardware. Many of the original High Temple
Workshop contributors are no longer active participants, yet the theme
of High Temple remains the same. Today, Government overviews of
federally sponsored HT composites research serve to create an awareness
in both the public and private sector. Active participation from both
large and small businesses report on their advances. Similarly,
university researchers describe their efforts to advance high
temperature polymer composites. Many of these new applications and much
of the knowledge was generated from key information taught at High
Temple Workshops. New monomer and polymer chemistries continue to be introduced
frequently at High Temple before they are published in peer-reviewed
journals. Newer technical subjects such as electron beam curing,
low-cost processing and coatings are some of the recent topics that
continue to make High Temple one of the premier composite technical
meetings, year-in and year-out.
About this site...
High Temple captures these advances in proceedings with a
keyword index originally published as a paper copy in 1995. This index
describes the papers presented by polymer types, test methods,
processing techniques, applications and property data. Using this index
and the proceeding papers as a kernel, the High Temple Steering
committee decided in 1998 to fund a web-based database. By
subscribing to High Temple Virtual Library, you gain access to the
index and papers generated over the years. You will also receive
up-to-date information on current workshops and contact
information.
